Program Note: danceSense explores the interconnections between body, data, and space in a performative/pedagogical context, combining media makers with motion artists and theatre design/tech practitioners. In danceSense, body sensors gather data from dancers' movement and send signals to a show control console, creating a unique sound, light, and video score for each performance. danceSense, part of the “Improvised Journeys” research project, is supported in part by the UB Arts Collaboratory, Department of Media Studies, and Department of Theatre and Dance.
Jason has been collaborating with Theatre and Dance on a sensor-driven, experimental approach to generating audio and driving theatrical systems for dance performance. This Thursday will be a ‘school time’ performance during which the work, danceSense, will be presented alongside other works that are also relevant to the Media Study community. To hold your seat, follow the instructions below. Entire classes are welcome to attend as well.
