Q&A with Filmmaker and scholar Kalpana Subramanian on Zoom to follow
Kalpana Subramanian will be presenting a program titled Breath Poetics in Experimental Film as part of Colgate University's Alternative Cinema series. The program includes films by Anna Kipervaser and Evan Morgan, Charlotte Pryce, Erin Espelie, Laura Kraning, Sandeep Ashwath, Stephanie Barber, Robert Breer, Robert Todd, and Subramanian. The screening will be approximately one hour long followed by a short talk and Q&A. The films will be live-streamed via Youtube. The talk and Q&A will take place via Zoom.
Kalpana Subramanian is an artist-filmmaker, educator and doctoral candidate in Media Study at the University at Buffalo. She is interested in transcultural, interdisciplinary and practice-based frameworks of inquiry into experimental film and media arts. Her dissertation explores the poetics of breath in experimental film comparing Western and non-Western philosophies of embodiment. Her films have been screened at several international film festivals including the Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival, Interfilm Berlin, Toronto International Film Festival, Antimatter Media Arts, Engauge Experimental Film Festival, Digital Anthropologies and Wildscreen UK among others. Subramanian was a Fulbright Nehru Academic and Professional Excellence Fellow at the Brakhage Center at the University of Colorado Boulder in 2015-16 and a UK Environmental Film Fellow in 2006.
