    Professor Zaldivar has been awarded the 2024 Dementia Impact Award for the interactive photo exhibition entitled The Gold Room. This installation will grow as it travels to create a movable space for dialogue, community engagement and education. Zaldivar sets out to galvanize a movement of strength-based care for people living with dementia through art and film by focusing on the abilities that remain, rather than what is lost.
  • Professor Christine Marie has been awarded the 2025 NYSCA Individual Artist Grant for her new installation.

    Professor Christine Marie has been awarded the 2025 New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) Individual Artist Grant. Her upcoming installation contemplates environmental precarity by examining the interplay between analog versus digital images on the surfaces of a 10-foot cube. Marie will employ multiple overhead projectors, 8mm film, and anaglyph 3D technology to depict the natural world—intermittently challenged by AI-generated digital projections of climate catastrophes. The convergence and clash of these elements invite reflection on the fragility of our environment and the consequences of unchecked technological advancement.

    The first game night of the semester is happening on Tuesday, October 29 featuring a new board game by lab member Max Wilde, followed by play time of student game projects and the recently released Silent Hill 2 remake. This game night coincides with the Art in the Open event, and will be one small part of the festivities that night.   • UB Presidential Fellow András Blazsek on Project Team Awarded 2024 ACLS Digital Justice Seed Grant

    The University at Buffalo is proud to announce that UB Presidential Fellow and Teaching Fellow, András Blazsek, a doctoral student in the Department of Media Study, is part of a project team that has been awarded a 2024 ACLS Digital Justice Seed Grant. Project team members also include City University of New York (CUNY) professors Emily Verla Bovino (Project Lead, Performing and Fine Arts, CUNY York College) and Dawn Roberts-Semple (Co-Investigator, Earth and Physical Sciences, CUNY York College) as well as esteemed community organizer and environmental educator Barbara Brown (Chairperson, Eastern Queens Alliance, Inc.). The project will include community participation through Eastern Queens Alliance, Inc. (EQA), a federation of civic associations advocating for a sustainable Southeast Queens. EQA operates the Idlewild Environmental Center located at 222-02 149th Avenue in Springfield Gardens, Queens. The creation of the center and the restoration of Idlewild Park Preserve are its major initiatives.
